FOI 382_ScotWind Revenue

Request

I am looking to gain a more detailed breakdown to the revenues of each Scotwind site. I have seen that it is estimated that £28.8bn in revenue will be generated. I was hoping you could provide me with a project-by-project breakdown for this.

Response

The ScotWind offshore wind projects are currently all in development stage and must obtain necessary consents from the Scottish Government’s Marine Directorate to be able to enter a Lease. The Lease is required to construct the offshore wind farm, and rental is payable to Crown Estate Scotland based on the power generation of the wind farm. The rent paid is revenue. It is not currently possible to provide an accurate estimate of predicted revenue from ScotWind projects as this will be influenced by various factors beyond our control.

All profits generated by Crown Estate Scotland, after accounting for operating costs and capital expenditure, are paid into the Scottish Consolidated Fund.

The figure in your question of ‘£28.8bn’ relates to the total initial Scottish supply chain commitments; this is not revenue which is paid to Crown Estate Scotland. Details of these commitments are available in the Supply Chain Development Statements (SCDS) from each of the 20 successful projects. These can be found under the ‘Supply chain commitments’ heading on our website, on the ScotWind information page: ScotWind leasing round | Crown Estate Scotland.

You can also find all the offshore wind projects presented geographically using the map on the Current offshore wind projects webpage. The blue polygons are the ScotWind projects, and you can access the SCDS information by selecting the shape.
