Crown Estate Scotland operates under a framework document drawn up by the Scottish Government. This covers:
- functions, duties and powers
- aims, objectives and targets
- responsibilities and accountability
- plans, budgets and controls
- external accountability arrangements
- staff management arrangements
- certain aspects of our financial framework
Scottish Ministers appoint our chair and our board. The Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland regulates their appointment. The chair has three-year terms with a maximum of six years, and board members have between two and four year terms, with a maximum of eight years.
Salary and pension information
In line with Scottish Government guidelines, we publish the names and salaries of senior staff (equivalent to senior civil servant Grade Two and above) on our website.
Our Chief Executive is accountable to the chair and board, with an annual salary of between £115,000 and £120,000.
The information is correct as of 30 June 2024.
Further details on the senior management team's salaries and pension benefits can be found in our 2022-23 Annual Report and Financial Statements.
Publication of papers
As part of our commitment to openness and transparency, we publish all papers and minutes of Board meetings except when there is a clear statutory / legal reason to not publish. This is usually when the information is commercially / personally sensitive, or it relates to the formulation of government policy.
We periodically review our decisions to withhold publication of papers. This means that some papers that are initially withheld may be published at a later date when they are no longer sensitive.
A full list of published papers can be found in the downloads section of this page - and links to some key documents are provided below:
