Crown Estate Scotland manages around half of the foreshore and most of the seabed out to the 12 nautical mile limit.

We work closely with local authorities, businesses, coastal communities and other partners to:

  • Give occupation rights to Crown foreshore and seabed for projects providing marine infrastructure, e.g. ports and harbours, marinas, bridges, cables, pipes, moorings and dredging
  • Help coastal communities manage their local marine resource, for examples, through local authority regulating leases and mooring associations
  • Use our experience and expertise to help people, business and communities make the most of our limited marine resource

We work with our agents Bidwells on all day-to-day property management issues. If you would like to find out more about using foreshore or seabed for the activities listed above, please email or download our applications forms and guidance notes below.

Please see aquaculture, offshore wind and wave & tidal energy and cables & pipelines pages for more on those activities.

For information about obtaining consents for works such as dredging and dumping of materials or laying of pipes visit our marine works page.
