Forestry Intern

Crown Estate Scotland is recruiting for a Forestry Intern for a 12-month fixed-term contract, to join our team. This role is based at our Glenlivet Estate in Moray and is to assist with the coordination and implementation of planned forest management activities.

About You


Working in an outdoor, rural environment, the successful applicant will assist with the day to day management of the forest including monitoring and inspections and will work with the Forest Manager and Head of Property to ensure compliance with UK Woodland Assurance Standards. You will also help maintain productive links with neighbours, tenants, local communities, external partners and contractors.


Typical tasks include carrying out plant health and fence inspections on restock sites, assisting with biological surveys, monitoring and recording work, assisting with developing habitat management projects and low-level maintenance.


You should be able to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of people, be a good team player with strong self-motivation but be able to work effectively and actively alone.


The successful applicant will have a good base knowledge and understanding of forest management practices including forest mensuration techniques. You should be computer literate and have a basic understanding of GIS systems and you should be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people through verbal, written or presentation communications.


The successful applicant will need to hold a full, clean driving license as the woodlands are scattered and not accessible by public transport.

The starting salary will be £23,084 with potential for future progression as well as eligibility of annual cost of living rises. The role offers participation in the Civil Service pension scheme. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2020.
